OAK MOUNTAIN STATE PARK INTERPRETIVE CENTER

A Collaboration of the Alabama Wildlife Center, the Alabama Department of Conservation, Samford University and Friends of Oak Mountain

Oak Mountain State Park is the largest state park in Alabama with 9,000 acres of mainly forested land. As a regional park, it serves the largest metropolitan area in Alabama. Located beside a main north-south interstate, I-65, the park is rapidly becoming surrounded by dense suburban development.

The Need for an Interpretive Center:

THE MISSION of the Oak Mountain State Park Interpretive Center is to instill appreciation for Oak Mountain State Park as a natural habitat and to provide a hands-on educational experience that enables children and adults to learn about Alabama’s biodiversity, students and teachers to research its wonders, and all visitors to understand the importance of environmental stewardship.
